Summary
The US Business Development Manager is a highly motivated sales and customer-centric professional that identifies and develops new accounts within the US medical device market. Based in our US headquarters in Memphis, Tennessee, this role will support existing US-based partners to maintain a high level of service and results, while developing new business relationships with key decision makers to secure new partners and consulting projects. This person must have a strong technical and sales acumen in the medtech space, while building and maintaining a referral network that will result in a targeted and effective approach to growing our US clientele in Memphis and beyond. Above all, they will be able to effectively communicate our value to partners, seeking like-minded innovators that put the patient’s wellbeing first, through rapid development of innovative medical solutions.
Role and Responsibilities
- Develop a strong US referral network and new prospects from personal research and company led lead generation, to sell medical innovation and consulting services to medtech companies
- Develop and maintain personal business relationships with partners, with consistent communication (live and digital) to drive revenue
- Maintain a strong working knowledge of the product development life cycle and all functions required to support the entire pathway; including R&D, quality, regulatory, clinical, manufacturing and marketing
- Develop strong product knowledge of our innovation portfolio to communicate the future clinical and market need for these technologies to potential partners
- Development and execution of a targeted US BD and marketing strategy to expand our clientele in the US
- Lead the proposal development process for new US prospects, and be familiar with contract negotiations, standard legal terms, and good documentation practices as it relates to NDAs, consulting agreements, etc.
- Support commercialization strategy development and go-to-market execution for US clients through market intelligence, end user engagement, and live meeting support
- Identify distribution or licensing partners, and proposing cross-client opportunities
- Build authentic relationships with cross-functional teams to drive timely project execution and client satisfaction
- Attend live networking events and tradeshows to develop new leads for the US Consultancy business
- Provide targeted content to global Product Management in support of US-focused digital marketing campaigns and promotional collateral
- Develop and maintain relationships with US HCPs that provide input on clinical and innovation programs
- Support the VP of BD and Marketing with multi-national partners that also have offices in the US
- Manage the US BD budget and sales quotas to achieve annual revenue and profit targets
Qualifications and Education Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in science, engineering or business, Master’s diploma or MBA preferred
- 5-8 years of experience in a technical sales and/or marketing role in the orthopeadics, biologics, or other relevant medical device industry, with a proven track record of success
- 2-5 years independent sales or consulting experience preferred
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally 20% of the time between US and Ireland offices, and to support clients; valid Driver’s License and US passport required
Knowledge and Skills requirements
- Knowledge of the US regulatory requirements for class II medical devices required; class III preferred
- Knowledge of orthopedic or biomaterials manufacturing, design and development process
- Strong knowledge of medical device market from a commercial and sales perspective
- Highly motivated and ambitious individual, that enjoys building relationships with integrity to create profitable referral partners and new business opportunities
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including presentation skills both in-person and via video
- Ability to synthesize technical and clinical terms into compelling and simple conversational messages
- Mastery of MS Office and experience utilizing a CRM to improve lead conversion (Salesforce, Hubspot, Pipedrive, etc)
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team, both internally and with client partners
- Ability to work in small but growing global company, requiring flexibility to manage multiple projects, products and priorities
